What I learnt from Jab Tak Hai Jaan-the movie

This marks an end to Yash Raj Chopra's running around trees, dancing atop Switzerland's Alps in chiffon sarees, colour coordinated couple's clothing (what an alliteration!) days. *Sigh* I wish I'd actually feel bad about this. Does that make me a bad person? Anyway, here's what I learnt from the movie:

1.  If you plan to abandon your daughter, always wait till she's 12 years old!
Neetu Singh tells her heart-tugging, eye-wrenching story of how she fell in love with a chap when she was married with a daughter aged 4. Yet, she managed to pull a reign on her desires and emotions and waited till she turned 12 and THEN left her. God bless this woman. How very considerate. I've been trying to Google the origin of this 12 year old rule, no information found yet. Because what my plain brain thought was that if one ever planned to leave a kid, it should be done at an early stage. Less trauma and mental footprints left et cetera. Clearly, I was horribly wrong. If any helpful soul out there knows more about this rule, contact me. ASAP.

2.  If you fall out of love. You'll accomplish all your dreams.
Before and during Shahrukh's little amour with our very own femme fatale (too much French?) Kaif, he was just a drifting waiter/fish-seller/snow-shoveller/ Punjabi singer on the streets of London. After they break apart..BAM! He gets into the army, muscles ripping out of his cargo T-shirt, a rugged beard with a strategically placed scar. He looked as if he'd accidentally slipped and rolled into a swamp. A swamp called MACHO. And not just into the army, he is a freaking bomb defuser. Like the fact that he IS Shahrukh Khan wasn't enough for the girls to get drooling. To add to the list, BBC documentaries are being made on him too. But this is a very delicately brewed situation. You'll have to first fall in love so head-over heels that when you fall out of it, you have nothing in your life left but to be awesome. This also involves God apparently, that he will not let you die and make you successful so that in the end you return to your lover again. But that is another complex theory of this movie. Let's save it for later.

3. Always wear a slinky dress. No matter what the temperature is outside.
This has nothing AND everything to do with love and life. Designer clothing is important. So is make-up. Very, very important. What if you bump into the love of your life the day you decide to go au naturel? What a catastrophe!

4. Never laugh loudly at the supposed romantic climax.
Your mother will give you looks. So will the people sitting around you. Try recounting a particularly disturbing incident, trust me, it helps shushing the giggles. If that doesn't help, wear a paper bag over your head. Or maybe a popcorn bag.

5. Erm..
Stop pressurizing me!That's it, dude! How much more can a little girl learn from a Yash Raj movie? Oh, maybe one more thing..All bad things, like all good ones come to an end. So did this 3.5 hour movie. Did they come up with the story line over a cup of coffee? Something like, "Yaar, life's getting too boring. Chalo, movie banate hain"  ? I wonder, I wonder. I felt elated and dazed as I stepped out of the theater, my head feeling a little lighter. I think, I lost a few. A few grey cells.

Have a good day!
